Dr. Friar is proud to offer our patients Functional Dry Needling, also known as Trigger Point Dry Needling, as a way to alleviate muscular pain. Dry needling is a unique procedure designed to specifically target and restore muscle function, with an emphasis on improving tissue healing and restoring normal tissue function. This is important as continued activity with poor muscle function may lead to further tissue damage and increased pain. Dry Needling involves multiple advances of a filament needle into the muscle in the area of the body, which is producing the pain and typically contains a 'trigger point'. There is no injectable solution and typically the needle that is used is very thin. Most patients will not even feel the needle penetrate the skin.
